Northern Lights in the South, an AI Version of Yourself, Ethics, and Naomi’s Under a Rock Review of “Ghostbusters 2” | Podcast Episode 80

Telescope on the Beach, Trying to catch the Northern Lights in Wilmington

Hello! Welcome to Luke and Naomi On-Air: The Podcast. Thank you for joining us for our 80th episode!

Just a quick recap to get us started: The salsa garden plants are still doing well. They get set outside to get sunlight, fresh air, and rain. We also have another Sips and Snacks video for you. This time, Ashley Rogers from Fermental paired a beer and wine with the crunchy, corn snack, Fritos. Check out the post here.

We talk about the Northern Lights. It was a huge geomagnetic storm that allowed parts of the world to see these beautiful colors in the sky, that would normally not have the opportunity. There were reports (and pictures all over Facebook) of people seeing the Northern Lights in Michigan, New York, Iowa, the Dakotas. Some places even further south, like North Carolina and Virginia, saw a few shades of the lights, although not as dazzling as the northern states. We actually drove around to try and see them, with no luck. The next day we made our way down to Fort Fisher beach at night in the hopes of seeing the brilliant lights, but we were unsuccessful. We definitely enjoyed all the pictures on Facebook, though.

And we have another crazy AI story, that you know Naomi is totally freaked out about. Apparently, there is a company working on the ability to leave an AI version of yourself, after you pass away. A man with terminal cancer is the first customer on this project. And he is training AI to act like him and talk like him for after he is gone. Unsettling. The thought behind it, leaving a piece of yourself for your loved ones is great. But something about this just doesn’t sit right with Naomi. Check out the full story in the podcast episode at the bottom of this page.

We discuss ethics after someone found twelve grand while cleaning a bathroom, Luke has your random facts, and we talk about the things you do that make you feel like a grown up. Some of our favorite grown up things included getting the dishes all done, deciding to have ice cream for dinner (because as an adult, you can make that decision), and drinking.

Of course we have another Facebook topic for next week, and there’s a little story behind this one. A guy wants to open up a taco and burrito shop in a strip mall. The strip mall has a rule though, of only one sandwich-style shop, and he had to go to court to fight and prove that a taco and/or burritos are NOT sandwiches. So we ask you: Is a taco (or burrito) a sandwich? And we’re not looking for yes or no answers here, we need you debate your point. Answers are coming up on our next podcast episode.

And without further ado, it’s time for Naomi’s Under a Rock Review. This week we have a sequel – We sit down and watch Ghostbusters 2. What did Naomi think of it? What surprised her? What was her favorite part? And we have to know, which movie is better: Ghostbusters or Ghostbusters 2? Check out this week’s review, and more on all the stories above, in Podcast Episode 80, right here:
