Social Etiquette Rules That Can Bite the Dust, Annoying Things in the Workplace and Naomi’s Under a Rock Review of “The Departed” | Podcast Episode 83

Luke and Naom's Beer Club Gang at Fermental in the Cargo District in Wilmington

Hello! And welcome back to another episode of Luke and Naomi On-Air: The Podcast. Can you believe we made it to episode 83?!

Let’s kick things off with a quick update on the salsa garden – It’s still growing. And it’s looking good for the most part. One of our jalapeno plants isn’t in the best shape though, and we really think it’s the birds pecking at it. So apparently, we are slowly killing off the plants. First the green onion went down, and now one of the jalapeno plants probably won’t last long. But the tomatoes, the cilantro, and the other jalapeno plant looks beautiful and they’re growing great! We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks.

We talk about things people say are so great, but we’re sick of hearing that – Things like starting a business (yeah, all that stress, loss of money, and not getting paid sounds fantastic). Also on the list was running, Stanley mugs, and kombucha. You can hear the full list and hear us dissect it, in the podcast episode at the bottom of this page.

We also talk about social etiquette rules we think we should be done with. Like, when you’re in a store or on a bus and someone sneezes… You say “Bless you,” or “God bless you,” – It’s just the thing you do. But do we have to do that anymore? How about when there is one piece of pizza left or the last of something on a shared platter? Common courtesy has you leaving that last lonely slice, and not taking it even if you want it. Why? Shouldn’t we get rid of that unspoken rule? Why waste the food? Check out the other social etiquette rules we would like to throw out the window in the video below.

Also, we discuss a list from Forbes of the worst places to spend a summer (sorry Jacksonville, Florida), we talk about our upcoming trip to New York, and Luke has your random facts, your recurrent dose of “Did You Know.”

And we dive into “annoying things at the workplace,” where we had you weigh in on this topic. It all started with a photo Naomi took at her work. It’s of an empty toilet paper holder, with an open roll of toilet paper on the back of the toilet. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if it only happened once in a while, but it’s a weekly, almost daily occurrence. The holder is right there! Just put the toilet paper where it belongs! Why is that so difficult?!

So that got us wondering, what little things happen at your workplace (like not putting toilet paper on the holder), that drive you nuts?! And we got some great answers! Some of our favorites included Snowman’s answer of when a client acts like they know how to do his job better than he does, and Brian from England’s answer of when he goes to have coffee in the break room and grabs the milk, but the last person left only a few drops – Not even enough for one more person. Infuriating! Cooking stinky food in the microwave and smelling up the office, not throwing away the coffee pods after making single-serving coffee, and leaving dirty dishes in the sink and never washing them, were all also mentioned. Co-workers, am I right?!

We have another Under a Rock Review for you! This time, we “ship up to Boston,” where Naomi sees Jack Nicholson as Frank Costello, Leonardo DiCaprio as William Costigan, Matt Damon as Colin Sullivan, and Mark Wahlberg as Sergeant Dignam. We’re talking about the 2006 crime/thriller film, “The Departed.” Did she like it? And what character does she go off on this time? Check out her review, and all this week’s stories, in the podcast episode here:
