Missing Movie Props, Unhealthy Snacks, Old-Timey Slang That Needs to Make a Comeback, and an Under a Rock Review of “Gladiator” | Podcast Episode 85

A variety of cookies and chocolates

Hello and welcome to another episode of Luke and Naomi On-Air: The Podcast. Here we are at Episode 85! Thanks for joining us.

Let’s dive right in, happy episode 85! First, quick update on the salsa garden – It’s still going well. Plants are still growing, and they’re surviving that Wilmington heat and humidity. A couple of flowers are falling off the pepper plant, but it doesn’t look like a cause for concern. We’ll see.

Since we talk about movies a lot, and our podcast does feature a weekly movie review, we found this interesting story about valuable movie props that were accidentally thrown out. Movie props like the treasure map from the Goonies. That was unfortunately thrown out by Shan Austin’s mom. How about the painting of the Emerald City from The Wizard of Oz? Apparently a salvage company tossed that out. Hear some of the other movie pieces that now live in our landfills, in the podcast episode at the bottom of this page.

We also discuss the most unhealthiest snacks in the world (why did we bring this negativity into our podcast?!?), and we talk old time slang we would like to bring back. We’re not talking about early 2000s to 2010s like “tight” and “straight.” We’re talking wayyyy older, and terms like “sauce box,” as in “shut your sauce box” when you need someone to stop talking. Speaking of mouths and faces, we enjoyed this one – “Giggle mug.” That refers to someone who smiles too much. How about this weird one – “Gas pipes,” which is a term for someone’s legs when their pants are too tight. Thanks Readers Digest, for the list.

Luke has your random facts, your recurrent dose of “Did You Know,” and we go over your answers to our Facebook topic from last week: Satan opens up “Heck,” a lesser version of hell. What kind of torture would you find there?” We had some great answers to this one, very creative answers. Jasmine wrote in with “a highway going through town where the stop lights aren’t timed correctly and you inevitably end up hitting every red light,” and she said, “oh wait that’s the city I live in.” Fantastic answer! One of our favorite answers (not just because it serves our egos), Dallas wrote “having a listen to be in The Breakfast Club on 105.1 because there’s no other morning radio show without music in the area.” Dallas listened to us at KBIM in Roswell, New Mexico, where we used to do our morning show. Check out all the other answers in the podcast episode below!

Now it’s time for main event, Naomi’s Under a Rock Review. This week, she watches the 2000 film starring Russell Crowe, “Gladiator.” Naomi has seen bits and pieces of this movie, five minutes here, ten minutes there, while other were watching it, but this was her chance to sit down and watch the whole thing and understand what’s going on in the movie. Did she like it? What surprised her about the movie? And would she watch it again? Find out those answers and more in this week’s podcast episode, right here:
