Pop Culture Fun Facts, Snitching Cars, The Best Things You’ve Won, and Naomi’s Under a Rock Review of “Peter Pan” | Podcast Episode 87

Luke under his shade at Fort Fisher Beach

Welcome back to Luke and Naomi On-Air: The Podcast, featuring Naomi’s Under a Rock Review. Thanks for joining us for Episode 87!

If you haven’t gotten a chance yet, you should check out our latest “Sips and Snacks” segment. That’s where we meet with Ashley Rogers of Fermental, and he pairs a beer and a wine with a snack we choose. Well, we did an at-home version because the snack we chose was fish sticks (and there’s no way we could have cooked those and had them still warm and crunchy by the time. we drove over to Fermental). A link the the video is here. If you pay close enough attention, you’ll notice a mistake. Ashley Rogers says the beer that we’re going to drink tastes like and looks like red Kool-Aid. If you notice, the liquid is clear. What may just seem like a description mistake, was actually a bigger story. Apparently, there was an issue with quality control at the brewery where this beer is from. Check out the details in the podcast episode at the bottom of this page.

We enjoyed another all day beach day, since the last recording. It may be our last one for a week or so however, because we have some stormy weather coming. As you know, we live in Wilmington, right near the coast. We haven’t had to deal with any bad tropical storms or hurricanes since we had moved here (mostly storms that have fizzled out before they reached us), but it looks like this one might get us. Nothing to get too worried about, it’s not a direct hit. It will be moving up from Georgia and South Carolina. We’ll fill you in on how that goes in an upcoming podcast.

Also since our last episode, we made our way to the movie theaters to see “Deadpool and Wolverine.” No, we’re not going to review that movie too, but we enjoyed it. And if you’re a Deadpool and/or Wolverine fan, you’re probably going to enjoy it, too.

Okay, on to the new stuff! Buzzfeed has a nice list out of pop culture fun facts from the 90s, and we discuss those. Did you know how the Spice Girls got their stage names? Or why Polly Pocket was created so small? We go over those fun facts and more, in the podcast episode at the bottom of this page.

We talk about new technology the automaker, Ford, is working on. This technology would basically snitch on vehicles around you that are disobeying the speed limit, and zooming past you. We also discuss more scary AI that you wear around your neck – That’s your friend?! Apparently, it’s like a tamagotchi, but it’s always listening, and will comment on things you’re doing. Can you guess if Naomi is on board with this AI?!

Luke has your recurrent dose of “Did You Know,” and we go over your answers to our Facebook topic from last week: “What’s the best thing you’ve ever won?” It could have been a radio contest, it could have been money off a lottery ticket, it could have been a raffle or some other sort of giveaway. We wanted to hear your stories of the best and coolest things you’ve won. And the answers did not disappoint! Our favorites included “a free beer” and “the grand prize in a radio station contest, which was $949.” Hear the stories in the podcast episode below!

Of course, we have another Under a Rock Review for you. Naomi watches Disney’s Peter Pan for the first time, and well… She has some feelings. Does she like it? And what’s wrong with Tinkerbell? Find out on this week’s podcast episode here:
