The New Year, Lottery Etiquette, the “Breaking Bad” House, and Naomi’s Under a Rock Review of “The Karate Kid” | Podcast Episode 101

Dessert From Far From France on New Year's Eve

Welcome (back) to Luke and Naomi On-Air: The Podcast. Thanks for joining us for Episode 101.

If you’re new to Luke and Naomi On-Air, hello! We’re a former morning show team who’ve taken our show from the radiowaves to the internet. We still do a lot of our same morning show format – We have various stories we discuss, and we have a Facebook topic that we ask you to join in on. But we also have Naomi’s Under a Rock Review. Luke has seen all the movies, and Naomi hasn’t. It was an old joke on their radio show because Naomi would say she “lived under a rock,” when movie references would come up and she didn’t understand. So, now she’s watching all the classics, “Ghostbusters,” “Interview with a Vampire,” “True Lies,” and more, and reviewing them. We have another great review coming up in this episode.

But first…

Just a reminder about all the cool stuff on our website (right here). Of course you can find all our podcast episodes, but you can also find our “Sips and Snacks” videos, photo galleries from vacations and adventures, and we have “Luke’s Gadgets and Gear,” where he rates all the cool stuff that he finds on Amazon and buys. And you just have to check out his rating system. Plus, you can listen to the podcast at the bottom of this page to find out how he came up with that rating system. It’s great!

Happy Christmas and Happy New Year! Hope you had a great holiday season! We had a good one, didn’t go anywhere, and celebrated Christmas by Facetiming and video chatting with both our families. Technology is great for that! We had a fantastic New Year, as well. Naomi’s favorite holiday is New Year’s, which starts with a fancy dinner for New Year’s Eve (and that’s now becoming a tradition). First it was Seabird in downtown Wilmington, and it was one of their Prix Fixe menus. Delicious appetizers, small plates, entrees, and desserts. This year, it was another restaurant with a Prix Fixe menu. We decided to go to “Far From France,” and once again, the New Year’s Eve meal did not disappoint:

New Year’s Eve wrapped up with fireworks at Carolina Beach. What a way to wrap up 2024 and start the New Year. Of course for New Year’s Day, we had our new tradition, our “Not-So-Polar Plunge.” That’s where we get a couple of friends together and jump into the ocean! Check out the video from this year’s plunge here.

We talk about lottery tickets given as holiday gifts, and what the etiquette is if you win a decent prize. Do you have to share with the person who bought the ticket? It seems like the overwhelming response is “it depends on who gave you the ticket.” Check out the discussion in the podcast episode at the bottom of this page.

The “Breaking Bad” house in Albuquerque is for sale. They’re asking four million dollars for this house, which may seem like a lot, but you could make SO much money off this house. While we lived in New Mexico, we made the trip up to Albuquerque and we got to see the RV from “Breaking Bad,” and the car wash, and this specific house. Imagine owning this piece of tv memorabilia, and then charging people for a tour. Or to throw a pizza on the roof (although, we would make them supply their own pizza, too). Sadly for the people who own the house, they cannot live there anymore. The “Breaking Bad” craze has flipped their lives upside down. So, they’re moving. But if you’re in the market for a new home… Here you go!

Of course, Luke has your recurrent dose of “Did You Know,” and we kick off our Facebook topic for next week, “What was your foolproof cheating strategy in school?” We’ll go over those answers in our next episode.

And we have another Under a Rock Review for you. This week, Naomi sits down to watch the original, from 1984, “The Karate Kid.” How well does the movie hold up? Does she like Mr. Miyagi? And would she watch this one again? Find out those answers and more, in the podcast episode below:

Original Air Date: January 6, 2025
