Ranch Soup, End of Your Life Stats, and Naomi’s Under a Rock Review of “Saving Silverman” | Podcast Episode 102

Luke and Naomi at Carolina Beach New Year's Eve Night for their fireworks show

Hello and welcome to Episode 102 of Luke and Naomi On-Air: The Podcast. Thanks so much for joining us.

If you’re new to the show, hey! Thanks for finding us. We’re a former morning show team that has brought our radio program to the internet. We go over a variety of stories, we have a weekly topic that we ask you to be a part of, and we feature Naomi’s Under a Rock Review, where she reviews classic movies that everyone has already seen. Everyone, but her, of course. Re-live your first watch of favorite films like “True Lies,” “Ghostbusters,” or “The Karate Kid,” through Naomi’s eyes. We’ll have another review coming up at the end of this podcast episode.

But first, we have a few things to get to…

A quick heads-up, we’ll be off for the next two weeks. We’ll be making our way to the Dominican Republic with some friends. It’s our first time to the DR, so we’re really looking forward to this vacation. We’re already a little checked out, to be honest! But we’ll have lots of pictures and stories for you when we get back.

In the meantime, let’s get to some “interesting” 911 calls from Canada. What’s considered an emergency in Canada? And is there going to be a lot of “please,” “sorry,” and “I don’t want to bother you, but…”? We’ll find out. Highlights include a person who called 911 because they needed help unlocking their cell phone, and another individual who placed a call because their cat was being mean to them. We don’t really think that’s considered an emergency, but what do we know?! Check out more of the ridiculous 911 calls in the podcast episode at the bottom of this page.

Jimmy John’s has a some ranch soup available! Okay, it’s not actually ranch soup, but the internet is calling it that because of this giant tub of ranch that they’re selling, that really resembles a container of soup. Of course, commenters had a field day with this. It got us thinking though, what’s the weirdest thing you’ve eaten with ranch. We discuss an old story (that was talked about in one of the earlier podcast episodes), where Naomi had accidentally gotten ranch on grapes and still ate it. We also talk about eating plain ranch, and ranch on hot dogs. Jimmy John’s is leaning into their “ranch soup” and have said “it’s for slurping, sipping, or dipping.” So take that how you want, but it sounds like they knew what they were doing from the beginning. Either way, they got people talking.

We also talk about the stats you would want to see at the end of your life. Like, after you die, if you were to be given a card with stats about your life, what would you like to see on that card? Would you like to see how many pounds of bacon you ate over the course of your lifetime? How about how many people you made smile, or how many people you made feel good? How about something mundane, like how many green lights you got to go through, or how many red lights you caught? We want to hear your answers as well! You can leave your comments/answers on our Facebook page: Luke and Naomi On-Air, or leave us a note in the “comments section” at the bottom of this page.

Luke has your recurrent dose of “Did You Know,” and we go over your answers to last week’s Facebook topic, “What was your foolproof cheating strategy in school?” We had some great answers to this one, and it really shows how times have changed. Kids probably wouldn’t be using any of these ideas nowadays, they have other ways to “get by.”

And we have another Under a Rock Review. This time, Naomi watches the 2001 comedy starring Jack Black, Steve Zahn, Jason Biggs, and Amanda Peet, “Saving Silverman.” How did she like it? Did she find it as funny as Luke did? Would she recommend it to someone who hasn’t seen it? Get these answers and the full review in this week’s podcast episode here:
