Alt-Zalea Fest, Unhinged Money-Saving Tips, Hotdog Towers, and Luke’s Under a Rock Review of “Holes” | Podcast Episode 111

Band Playing at Flytrap in Wilmington as Part of the Alt-Zeala Festival 2025.

Hey! It’s Luke and Naomi On-Air: The Podcast. Thanks for joining us for lucky episode number 111.

If you’re new to Luke and Naomi On-Air, welcome! We’re a married radio show team that have moved from the airwaves to the interwebs. We bring pieces of our morning show to the podcast like Luke’s dad jokes, a topic that we ask for you to get involved in and we have our “morning show” – Where we discuss weird and crazy stories that are trending. But we also have Naomi’s “Under a Rock” reviews. Luke has seen all the movies, and Naomi… Well, she’s been living “under a rock.” You get the chance to re-live your first watch of classic movies through Naomi’s eyes. This week, we flip the script and it’s going to be Luke’s “Under a Rock” review.

That’s coming up shortly, but first…

A little recap from the last couple of days – We actually took a week off. We went out celebrating Luke’s birthday and let the celebrations continue into the following week. For his birthday though, we made our way to Alt-Zalea Festival. Wilmington hosts the Alzalea Festival every year, and over the last couple of years, during this festival, the Alt-Zalea Festival is also going on, a couple of blocks away. The Alt-Zalea Festival is a BUNCH of alternative artists who play at different breweries and venues throughout the Brooklyn Arts District of Wilmington, for the day. Last year there was 68 different artists throughout the day (and throughout the venues). This year, I’m sure it. was the same. It was SO much music, and SO much fun. We got to see a young woman perform hit songs from Blink-182, Green Day, and My Chemical Romance. We also got to see one of Luke’s favorite local bands, the “Dubtown Cosmonauts.” It was a phenomenal birthday celebration, and a great event for the Brooklyn Arts District.

We’ve also posted a new video for you to check out on our YouTube Channel – “Two Truths and a Lie.” Watch the video, hear the three statements, and let us know what statement you think is the lie. That’s live right here.

Alright, let’s get to the meat of this week’s episode! Of course, Luke has your recurrent dose of “Did You Know” – Some random facts to get you through until next episode. And we talk about some unhinged ways to save money. Some of them are REALLY unhinged! Check out the full story in the podcast video at the bottom of this page (08:01).

Speaking of “unhinged”… Let’s talk about Hotdog Towers. When you think of the phrase “Hotdog Tower,” what do you think of? Do you go off the rails and think of a tower made out of uncooked, slightly slimy hotdogs like Naomi did? Or do you think of what it actually is, a tower with each level being different kinds of hotdogs or dips or fries? It’s like a hotdog table, or how someone might do a taco bar, but in tower form. You can see what they are (and what Naomi thought they were), in the video below. This may be the new trend for 2025. Or maybe it’s just a gimmick that’s not going to take off. We’ll see (14:35).

And we need to talk about our Facebook topic from before our recovery from Luke’s birthday hiatus. If your pet could win an award, what would it be? Are they the loudest whiner? Do they jump straight up in the air like there’s springs on all four of their paws? Do they have a unique talent? We go over all the answers and pick our very coveted “LISTENER OF THE WEEK.” Hear the answers, and get a jump-start on next week’s topic below (23:15)

We didn’t forget! We’ve got another “Under a Rock” review for you. This time, Luke is the one living under a rock. He gets to take the notes this week, for the 2003 family film starring Shia LaBeouf, “Holes.” Did he like it? How well did it hold up to the book? What was his favorite part? Find out these answers and more, in this week’s podcast episode, right here:
