Ghosts, Unattempted Guinness World Records, and Naomi’s Under a Rock Review of “A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge” | Podcast Episode 120

Luke and Naomi at Tidal Creek Brewing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Welcome to Luke and Naomi On-Air: The Podcast. Thanks for joining us for another episode as we hit #120.

If you’re new to the show, well thanks for checking us out! We’re a married morning radio show team that has gone from broadcasting over the airwaves, to bringing our antics to the internet. We still feature interesting, trending topics and random facts as part of our “morning show,” but we’ve also added a few new items. We have our “Sips and Snacks” video series that has us visiting Fermental in the Cargo District of Wilmington, and pairing beer and wine with everyday delicious snacks. We also post photo galleries of our adventures and different stories, but every podcast episode features Naomi’s “Under a Rock Review,” where she watches a classic movie for the first time and reviews it! Re-live your first watch of favorite films like “The Sixth Sense,” “Short Circuit,” “Rocky,” and more. We’ve got another great review for this episode, too…

But first…

We’ve been talking about this for the last couple of weeks (and we’re going to continue talking about it) – Our Not-So-Polar Plunge! Mark your calendars for January 1st, New Year’s Day, as we jump into the Atlantic Ocean, all for a great cause! We’ve been doing this for a few years, but this year we are raising money for The Caribbean Surf Connection, a fantastic organization that teaches kids life skills, through surfing.

This is a unique organization, and there’s a million great charities out there raising money for kids and helping them get an education and food in their bellies, but this foundation is helping children learn skills to help them grow into adults and members of their community, and is keeping them away from violence and an otherwise complicated future.

Please consider helping us raise money for this great cause. We’re asking you to donate and join our “Not-So-Polar Plunge.” Jump in the water with us in Wilmington, North Carolina on New Year’s Day, plunge in the water closest to you if you’re not in our area, or opt-out and watch our live stream of the fun!

We’ll be collecting donations through Venmo. You can send your donations to @Naomi-Lynn-34 (please include a comment that this is for the “Not-So-Polar Plunge” or a donation for “The Surf Connection”).

It’s been quite a while since we’ve updated you on the porch garden. Of course we’ve had a few small harvests of blueberries, strawberries, tomatoes, and such. But we need to talk about the jalapeños. What started as just a handful of seeds, has grown into this massive… tree! This is no longer a jalapeno plant, or even a bush, this thing is a tree. And we need some help. A gigantic plant with branches instead of stems and limbs, needs a name. It has to be a fitting name though, and focus on the spiciness of the plant and the colossal size of the thing. Any ideas? Drop a name or two in the “comments section” at the bottom of this page. Also, our tomatoes should have died. It’s the plant that just won’t quit. Get the details in the podcast episode at the bottom of this page.

In honor of the Guinness World Records turning 70 this year, they have announced 70 records that no one has attempted yet. And some of them are pretty crazy. Do you think you could hold the record for the most high-fives completed in 30 seconds? Or how about the fastest time to arrange a set of Scrabble tiles in alphabetical order? You could have bragging rights for having crushed the most cans with your foot in one minute. Check out more records that no one has attempted yet (and find out the ones that were suggested for us), in the video below.

It’s October. It’s almost Halloween. Spooky season is in full force.Things just wouldn’t feel right if we didn’t mention ghosts. While doing a morning show together, every October we would bring up this topic and want to hear ghost stories (and it was Naomi’s least favorite day). Today, we have some statistics on ghosts, and the amount of people who have experienced paranormal encounters. 23% of people say they have seen lights or other devices turn on or off without explanation. Have you ever experienced that? 7% of the people surveyed claimed they’ve actually seen a demon. Now that’s scary! The survey also covers unsettling feelings, unexplained smoke, and other paranormal experiences. Hear the full story below!

And speaking of spooky things, it’s time to get to Naomi’s Under a Rock Review. This week, we sit down to watch the sequel to the horror movie, “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” Freddy Krueger is back for more terrors, but is it a little too forced? Does Naomi like the movie? Is it as scary as the first movie? Or does this movie land in the Hall of Shame? Find out in Podcast Episode #120, right here:
