We’re Live! Strawberry KitKat Pizza, a Venezuelan Dinner, and Naomi’s Under a Rock Review of “Beverly Hills Cop” | Podcast Episode 128

Venezuelan Food from a food event at the Dram Tree Tavern in Wilmington

Welcome to another episode of Luke and Naomi On-Air: The Podcast. This is a very special episode – We’re live! Thanks for joining us.

We’re Luke and Naomi, a married morning show team that have moved from the airwaves to the internet. We still have bits from our radio show like Luke’s dad jokes, random facts, and we discuss trending topics and stories, but we also have new features like our “Sips and Snacks” video series, Luke’s new “Marvel Cinematic Universe Recap” series, and Naomi’s “Under a Rock” reviews.

Welcome to our first live show! Well… first live show on the podcast. Obviously when we had our morning show in New Mexico, we were live every morning. But that’s what makes this so exciting. Not only do you get to watch in real time (and can go back and re-watch because it lives on YouTube and in these blogs), but now you can react in real time, leave comments and join the conversation! We’ve missed this!

Alright! Let’s get into it!

We’re a little late to our scheduled 7:30pm start time, but that’s for a couple of reasons. Yes, there’s a little bit of a learning curve as we get used to running all this equipment through YouTube and our studio software, but we’re also a little late because we went to a special dinner tonight. It was really cool! There’s a local establishment, the Dram Tree Tavern, that offers a unique dining experience every Monday. They bring in a caterer, who makes cuisine from all over the world, and each week she focuses on a new country or region and cooks up those dishes. This week, the dinner was Venezuelan. Naomi had been stalking out these menus for months, and finally decided that she wanted to try one of the meals coming up, so when it was announced that Venezuelan food would be featured, we went! And it was delicious!

We ordered one entree each and two sides. We both got a different entree and different sides, so we were able to try everything.

The entree choices were: Arepas Reina Pepiadas or Empanadas Carne Molida. The Arepas Reina Pepiadas was a creamy avocado lime chicken salad stuffed into a crispy corn dough muffin. The Empanadas Carne Molida was a deep fried pie filled with cumin ground beef, olives, onions, and raisins. Naomi got the Arepas Reina Pepiadas and Luke went with the Empanada.

The sides included: Tequenos – cheesesticks wrapped in a sweet dough and fried, Salsa Carioca – a chopped salad with avocado, tomato, onion, and egg, Tajadas – grilled plantains, and Caraotas Negras – stewed, spiced black beans.

It was ALL amazing.

If you’re in the Wilmington area and are interested in these unique cuisine experiences, make sure you check out The Dram Tree’s Facebook Page to see what new menus are coming up. You can also follow: Manny Can Cater – Not only is she the one bringing these delicious foods to The Dram Tree, but she also has other events you can check out.

Like all our other podcast episodes, we’ve got Luke’s recurrent dose of “Did You Know,” which you can hear all those random facts in the podcast episode at the bottom of this page. We also talk about the Most Interesting Man in the World. It looks like he’s coming back! Again, details below.

And who doesn’t like an interesting food combination? Whether it’s chocolate and potato chips or cookies and cream, some things are just better together. But there’s a new combination that’s got us scratching our heads, and we’re not sure if this is taking it a little too far. A Pizza Hut in Japan has made a handheld, folded pizza with… strawberry Kit-Kats?!? What?? Naomi’s always believed “Don’t knock it til you try it,” but this may be a little much. What do you think? Would you give it a try? Get the full description of this new concoction in the podcast video below.

It’s now that time – Naomi’s “Under a Rock” review. Watch live as she recaps her first watch of the 1984 comedy starring Eddie Murphy, “Beverly Hills Cop.” Did she enjoy the movie? And what did she think of Eddie Murphy’s laugh? Would she recommend this movie to someone who hasn’t seen it? Get those answers and more, in this week’s podcast episode here:
